Located in the Upper Boréon Valley, Mercantour National Park is home to the wolf. It was seen roaming the territory in 1991 by the national park's rangers. Ever since, this untamed animal made the Mercantour mountain range its home. The town of St. Martin Vésubie has chosen this area to house its Alpha site devoted to wolves in captivity.
